The spa at Carrara belongs to a six-client treatment program on Broad Beach in Malibu, not the other way around: massage, facials, salon services and acupuncture, three sessions a week, fitted around therapy and medical care.
A rehab spa is an in-house spa that runs inside a licensed addiction treatment program, and that’s what the Carrara spa is. The spa team knows you’re in treatment, the clinical team checks every session against your medical plan before it’s confirmed, and the times are chosen so nothing collides with therapy or medication.
Spa and addiction treatment under one roof can sound like an odd pairing. The reason for it is practical. Detox is physically hard, therapy is tiring, and someone who is sore and short of sleep finds both harder to sit through. Being comfortable lowers your resistance to the clinical work, and that work is the point of being here.
Up to three services a week come with your stay. You book them through your Residential Advisor or through Spa Director Crystal Webb, who leads the spa team and can arrange anything that isn’t on the menu. To arrange a treatment before you arrive, call admissions at (888) 383-5207.
Because the clinical program is demanding, and comfort makes it easier to keep at. That is the whole claim made for the spa here. Nothing on the menu treats withdrawal or cravings, and nothing is described that way. The spa sits with the house’s other comforts, the private chef’s balanced holistic diet among them, for the same reason.
The treatment itself is medical detox, monitored day and night, then psychiatric care, individual therapy, group work and dual diagnosis care for bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety and trauma, all in one house in Malibu, with aftercare planned before you leave rather than after. Spa time is fitted around that schedule, and the schedule is never fitted around spa time.
Carrara provides that care under DHCS license #191295AP, with Joint Commission accreditation.
These are rest sessions led by Carrara’s wellness practitioners in the house, and they run beside the clinical work, not instead of it. The work on trauma and emotion happens with your therapist, using CBT, DBT, EMDR and somatic experiencing. The wellness page describes how a week of yoga, meditation and these sessions is scheduled.
Breathwork in addiction recovery means guided, counted breathing with a practitioner, seated or lying down, in short sessions you can repeat on your own before a group or at bedtime.
You rest while singing bowls, gongs and chimes are played, eyes open or closed, seated or reclined.
Light or near touch while you rest. There’s more on our Reiki in addiction recovery page.
Guided breath, body awareness and sound in one session. It’s booked like any other spa session, so your clinical team knows about it.
Gentle touch and movement along the spine, with the practitioner following what your body does. Offered as rest, nothing more.
A pulsed electromagnetic field device used while you lie down, with no needles and no pressure. Ask the medical team whether it suits you.
Massage, facials, hair and nail services, waxing, body scrubs, acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology, cupping, a chiropractic session, Reiki, sound healing, breathwork, Emotional Release, Spinal Energetics and EMF therapy, all in the house, plus the spa tub on the deck. IV drips, Botox and fillers are off-site options arranged with approval. Three services a week are included, and anything not listed can be requested through the Spa Director.
Three, subject to availability and clinical approval. Ask your Residential Advisor once you’re here, or call admissions before you arrive, and each session is placed around your therapy and medical appointments rather than the other way round.
Not as a treatment for either. Withdrawal is managed medically, monitored day and night, with medication when it’s indicated, while cravings are worked on with your therapist. Spa sessions are offered because being comfortable makes that work easier to stay with, and that is the only claim made for them here.
No to both. The spa serves people staying at the house, so it isn’t a day spa or a medspa in Malibu, and admissions will say so plainly if that’s what you’re after. The medspa services people ask about, IV drips, Botox and fillers, are off-site appointments arranged with approval and car service.
Skip acupuncture and the off-site injectables (IV drips, Botox and fillers), and the rest of the menu involves no needles. Massage, facials, body scrubs, nail and hair services, waxing, acupressure, reflexology, cupping, Reiki, sound healing and breathwork involve no needles at all.
Three services a week are part of the residential stay. Insurance is a question about the treatment program itself: depending on the plan, it may help with a share of the cost; the insurers, not Carrara, decide which plans do, and their lists change without notice, so admissions will check the plan you have. See how insurance coverage for luxury rehab works.
Reiki, sound sessions and acupuncture sit on both the spa menu and the wellness schedule. Yoga, meditation and personal training are run by the wellness practitioners rather than the spa team, and our holistic wellness services page describes them.
Admissions can tell you how the clinical day runs, where the spa fits inside it, and whether Carrara is a fit for your situation. If not, they’ll tell you. The conversation stays confidential, and it’s Carrara’s own admissions staff on the line, not a call center.
If this is an emergency, call 911. For free confidential support 24 hours a day, call or text 988.
