Dr. Shapiro studied Neurobiology at Cornell University and Medicine, Public Health, Psychiatry, and Geriatric Psychiatry at UCLA. He is board certified in Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and is certified by the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry. He has extensive experience with complex mental health conditions, complex characterological issues, trauma, cognitive disorders, mood and psychotic disorders, and eating disorders. Previously an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, he has trained medical students, residents, fellows, nursing staff, and mid-career physicians in nursing and medical schools and residency and fellowship programs in Medicine and Psychiatry throughout Los Angeles. He has been the Clinical and Medical Director for multiple eating disorder programs. He has written chapters in Andrew Weil’s Integrated Addiction and Recovery and the Oxford textbook on Geriatrics and is active in research in Psychedelics at UCLA.
